What praise can we bring with our weak and sinful lips to the most honourable of all creations, praised more than angels and archangels, the most holy Theotokos, who became worthy to be the Mother of the Most High God, and the Guardian of all Christian people? However, in order to be good Christians, we need to praise incessantly (and do in the same time the will of God!) the mediatrix of our salvation.
While he was going to seek water day after day, the old man wondered “why should I do this painful effort every day? I’d rather move my shelter close to the stream of water, so I spare myself the effort”. But while we was thinking all this, he felt the presence of somebody behind him, following his steps. He stopped and waited for the person to come closer. The old man asked: “Who are you?”
When your children will say “Holy God” they will hear the chants of the angels, who were once seen by a child in Constantinople in the time of the patriarch Proclus. When they will read “It is truly right to bless you, o, Theotokos”, they will find themselves in a poor cell on Mount Athos, where the prayer was first said by the Angel Gabriel; and when they will read the Evening Prayers, children will remember about the great John Chrysostom.
An old man was living in the desert, about 12 miles from any water source. Each day walking to bring water, very tired and upset the man said: ‘Why do I need this daily tiredness? Rather, I should move my shelter next to the water, in order not be troubled anymore or to get tired’. But saying this in his mind, he felt somebody’s presence behind him, on his tracks. He stopped and waited for the one that was following him and asked him: ‘Who are you?’.
