The ship has always been a symbol of the Church on the turbulent sea of this post-Edenic life. It is being steered by Jesus Christ ("the Good Shepherd"). His apostles and their followers are called "fishers of men" (Matthew 4:19). The character Ernest Krause can easily be associated with one of the pastors of the Church, called to watch over the souls hunted by the relentless enemy of man - the devil.
What praise can we bring with our weak and sinful lips to the most honourable of all creations, praised more than angels and archangels, the most holy Theotokos, who became worthy to be the Mother of the Most High God, and the Guardian of all Christian people? However, in order to be good Christians, we need to praise incessantly (and do in the same time the will of God!) the mediatrix of our salvation.
